IHS and LACS

One choice can transform you.
IHS or LACS?
Most people chose IHS
But that doesn’t mean LACS is wrong.
Someone once told me LACS was a school
Where they only do art.
All day.
If you don’t know anything about LACS, how can you judge?

My brother, my best friend, they both went there.
They did fine.
My brother went to college and
He’s majoring in economics and
art.

They tell me about
Slow halls
            Where people don’t push.
Graffiti walls
            A goldfish, the Beatles, the house from Up

A student-made salad bar
            because what you eat is who you are.
A week where you get to go far
            They call it trips week.
All school meetings
            isn’t that strange?
            You can make change


LACS just isn’t a place to

chill
though.
Just because they don’t take as many tests
doesn’t mean they don’t
learn
stuff.
Just because their teachers measure success
with a whole paragraph
not just one letter,
doesn’t mean they don’t
have
grades.


You know people
say things about
IHS too


They say that we are mainstream Americans
They say that we are mean, swearing, drug dealers
They say we are blonde girls who flip their hair
I think they picture something from
“Mean Girls” or “High School Musical”


IHS is my life and I can tell you; there are
people
here.
There are people at LACS too, and they
make mistakes and work hard and laugh and learn
just like we do.

But if you tell someone from
IHS
that you go to
LACS
they will say
 “Oh…”

and if you tell someone from
LACS
that you go to
IHS
they will say
“Oh…”

We
are
different
but what we share is greater.

The Race You see a leaking pipe, and know— Though slow, each drop begins the flow Of gallons lost to time and rust, A wound disguised beneath the crust. Each bead a gem, with breath inside, As if the water, too, has pride. Not just a leak, but something more— An ocean waiting at the door. States of Flow By Thea Clarkberg The fog sits heavy in my head, Ideas drift, half-formed, then dead. To condense the haze, I seek a spark, A focused flame within the dark.
